Pavel Aubrecht

My life dates back to 15.th of January 1973 in Brno, Moravia in Czech republic. I'm still an active figure skater, the sport wich I started as a 4 year old. I'm currently travelling around the world and performing in the ice show called Holiday on Ice.

I started to paint in 1989, influenced  most strongly till today by clasicism, romantism, italian painters and all great names like Francesco Goya, Hieronymus Bosch and later on by Salvator Dali, Renne Magritte and surrealism in total.

At the moment I 'm enjoying the freedom of travelling and painting at the same time, which is an amazing opportunity to explore the world, different cultures and people, visit galleries, gain experience, and to leave this influence to reflect in my artistic view.

In the summer of 1999 I had my first public exhibition in my home town. The exhibition displayed 18 paintings, my oldest to my, then, most recent. I'm proud to say, that my exhibition was opened by my friend, renown czech poet Jiri Kubena. Any other exhibition of mine in the future will be announced here on my site. Recently another exhibition of mine finished, this time in Canberra, Australia, where 15 of my pen and ink works were displayed.

In my work I'm trying to combine symbolic expressions with surreal visions. My aim in my work is always to gain harmony through concept, structure, and colour in the painting. The works should be readable through a combination of symbols ,hidden images and the overall mood of the painting. While working on a new painting I communicate with the work in order to achieve the feeling and atmosphere I desire.

Using my art as an expression, I find surrealism, which is in my opinion by far the strongest fine art movement in the 20.th century, the only way in creation of my paintings. I believe surrealism is very clean and honest, and thus represents a meaning. It helps as a tool in explaining an idea or vision and also performs as a mirror to the soul.

I do not follow modern art (post ,pre ,or whatever else), pop or abstract art movements because the artist's expression is not understandable, readible, and is without massage. I think these movements are closer to design than to fine art.. As I mentioned before, I believe art should communicate as well as represent a meaning.

If you agree with some of my ideas ,or if you DON'T, please write me  some of your personal views on surrealism, my work,or art in general  to    my mail, which you can do straight from my contact page. I'll be very pleased to answer you.
